A note from Elizabeth

After completing my arts degree, majoring in sculpture, I came across a jewellery exhibition that was sculptural and conceptual. I knew I had found my medium. I took my first jewellery course at 21 and was hooked from day one.

I have always taken inspiration from the world around me, particularly nature. I spend hours bushwalking, looking for unusual textures, seed pods and leaves, and use these as starting points for my designs.

I work mainly with sterling silver, copper and stones, and sometimes gold. I hand-fabricate my jewellery from scratch, apart from the occasional chain or clasp. Etching, roller printing and stamping let me explore texture in different ways. There is always another technique to learn, which keeps the process exciting.

A lot of time, planning and thought goes into my one-off designs. A stone or a found natural object will often spark their direction. I also love making everyday pieces that I can create again. Because everything is handmade, no two pieces are ever exactly alike.

All my work is made in my Sydney studio, surrounded by tools I have collected over the years and often accompanied by my dog and studio assistant, Poppy.
